The Love I Want

I don’t want crazy love

I don’t want the can’t sleep can’t eat can’t breathe love

I don’t want the can’t go one second without them love

I don’t want desperate love

Anxious love

Jealous love

Toxic love

I don’t want the “I need you” love.

I don’t want the type that goes up so fast you know it’ll crash kind of love.

I don’t want the love all those songs are written about

I don’t want run of the mill

I don’t want cliche

I don’t want a made up fairytale love

I want the real kind of love

I want “tell me how you feel” love

I want wrap me up in your arms on our hardest days

And on others be okay with having our own space

I want Sunday morning love

The mundane of seeing them dust the lamp shades for the 500th time and you’re still mesmerized by the way they cascade kind of love

I want Monday nights when the only moment you have to spare is climbing in bed and resting your head on theirs kind of love

The kind that understands, the kind that re-schedules plans, the kind that takes your hand when “busy” is the only emotion you can comprehend.

I want that honest kind of love

The “I need reassurance” kind of love.

The “bonding with your parents” kind of love.

I want laughing so hard you can’t breathe love

I want finding ways to be happy

Whether on a beach in Miami or waiting in line at the grocery love

I want empathetic love

Acts of service love

The “I’m too busy to talk right now but I need you to know I miss you” love

The “have you eaten today?” love

When chaos makes itself a third you find every way to silence it love

I want the kind of love that challenges you to be the best you for you

Not me not for them not for family

I want a love that inspires

A love that kills all the spiders

A love that washes worries away not with distractions but with plans made.

I want the love no one talks about because it’s so rare to find

The kind I’m thinking of looks a lot like your hand in mine.

It’s pure, it’s beautiful, it’s imperfect, compassionate, a never ending work in progress kind of love

And love is like art in a dozen ways but above all is that no one will ever see it the same

So I want the “I see the world the same as you” kind of love

I want to build it, cultivate it, perfect it, appreciate it.

I want to hold it.

For forever if you’ll allow it

I want magnificence, I always have and always will.

I’ll never settle for less than this and I knew exactly what it looked like the moment I felt it.

It’s you and it’s me, it’s bigger than any of my wildest dreams.

A love so great, you made a believer out of me.

A love that makes us deliriously happy.

A love that feels like my missing piece
